7th-Ranked SPU Men Survive Early Scare, Win Eighth Straight at Home
January 26, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Jan. 26) Bulling his way inside for 17 points and 10 rebounds, Robbie Will helped 7th-ranked Seattle Pacific University survive an early scare to beat Saint Martin's, 88-79 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) paced the Falcons (7-1, 15-2) to their eighth straight home win with 22 points and Mike Bushmaker (Sr., 6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) added 16.

Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) scored 11 points during a stretch midway through the game momentum swung in the Falcons' favor. He scored five of 14 unanswered points near the end of the first half to all but erase a 15-point advantage for Saint Martin's.

A 19-7 run early in the second stanza was punctuated by a pair of dunks by Will. During the spree, Binetti drove for a layup which gave Seattle Pacific the lead for good at 49-47. Will's jump hook made it 64-53 with 11 minutes to go.

The Saints (0-8, 5-12), who lost their eighth in a row and 15th consecutive in the series, got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Niko Nunogawa of Saint Martin's led everyone with 25 points and Jake Linton Had 15.

The Saints stunned the Falcons early on, taking the lead from the outset and building it to 15 points (41-26) after 14 minutes. Stephon Harris got eight points during a 19-7 burst.

The deficit all but vanished as Seattle Pacific closed to 43-40 at the break.

Will finished 7 of 9 from the floor, including 5-5 in the second period. Binetti was 9-11 and added nine assists.

Both teams shot 52 percent (33-63) from the field, but the Falcons went to the foul line 25 times, converting 16. SPU stole the ball 18 times, with Bushmaker and Binetti grabbing five each.

SPU hosts Seattle University in its homecoming game Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
