Falcon Women Muscle Way To 5th Straight Victory, Defeat Western Oregon
January 21, 2006

Complete Box Score

MONMOUTH, Or. (Jan. 21) – Brittney Kroon led a strong post attack with 16 points as Seattle Pacific won its fifth straight game 65-47 over host Western Oregon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday night at WOU’s New PE Building.

The Falcons (6-1, 12-4) remain one game behind ninth-ranked Western Washington (7-0, 15-1), a 65-45 victor over Central Washington tonight. Western Oregon (0-8, 0-17) lost its 22nd straight game dating back to last season

Kroon (Sr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) shot 7-12 from the field and also finished with five rebounds and seven blocked shots. SPU posts Carli Grant (Sr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) and Kelsey Hill (Fr., 6-2, Portland, Or./Portland Christian) scored 12 points each as the trio combined for 40 of the team’s 65 points.

Grant also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for her league-leading sixth double-double of the season. Hill grabbed six rebounds and shot 5-7 from the field in just 14 minutes off the bench. SPU shot only 40 percent as a team, but the trio combined to shoot 60 percent.

The Wolves contained the Falcons early and held a one-point lead seven minutes into the game, but SPU went on a 12-2 run to pull ahead by nine midway through the first half. Western Oregon got back to within three, but the Falcons captured an eight-point lead at the break.

Kroon scored SPU’s first three baskets of the second half, followed by a Grant lay-up to give the Falcons a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game as the birds cruised to victory from there.

Ali Crumb led all scorers with 18 points in the loss. Kori Seymour added eight points and eight rebounds.

Hill led a potent SPU bench that outscored WOU’s 23-5. The Falcons also had a 34-14 advantage in points in the paint. The Wolves shot just 31 percent from the field and a dismal 3-17 (18 percent) from three-point range. The Falcons shot an uncharacteristic 2-13 (15 percent) from behind the arc. SPU enjoyed a 48-39 rebounding advantage.

The Falcons next host Alaska Fairbanks in a GNAC game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
