SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 20) Debra Huss won
the all-around competition as Seattle Pacific University tumbled a
record opening-night score and defeated Alaska Anchorage 191.850
to 188.300 in a Mountain Sports Federation gymnastics meet Friday
night at Brougham Pavilion.
Huss (Jr., Orangevale, Ca.) notched a 38.450 in
the all-around after placing first on uneven bars (9.700) and
floor exercise (9.825) to help the Falcons hit an opening night
team total of 191.850.
Anchorages Lauren Agostino took second on
vault (9.75) and later tied for second with teammate Jessica
Portlock on floor exercise (9.675) to come in just behind Huss in
the all-around (38.400). Dominique Ingram launched 9.800 on vault
for first place and took second on bars (9.625).
Seattle Pacifics Sarah Sullivan (Jr.,
Salem, Or.) won beam (9.750) to finish third in the all-around
(38.375). Kristin Bryant (Jr. Anchorage, Ak.) tied for second on
floor exercise with Portlock and took third on vault (9.750).
Although Anchorage mustered a 46.925 on bars
for its best event performance of the night, SPU notched the
Seawolves in each rotation. The Falcons tallied a 48.400 team
total on beam for their top event performance.
The Falcons (1-0), who have qualified for the
USA Gymnastics national meet the last 23 years, tumble next at the
University of Washington on Jan. 27. They return to Brougham
Pavilion on Feb. 10 to host San Jose State.
