ARCATA, Ca. (Jan. 19) – Mandy Wood matched her season and career high with 27 points to lead Seattle Pacific to a 76-56 victory over host Humboldt State in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at HSU’s East Gym.

The Falcons (5-1 GNAC, 11-4) picked up their fourth straight victory and moved two games ahead of Humboldt State in the battle for second place. SPU is just one back of league leader Western Washington.

After Humboldt State (4-3, 9-7) scored the opening basket of the second half to cut the SPU lead to four, Wood buried a three pointer, then a lay-up, and Beth Christensen (So., 5-5, Enumclaw, Wa) hit a three to give the Falcons their first double digit lead of the game, 37-27 with 16 minutes left to play.

The Lumberjacks responded with a basket to get back to within single figures, but SPU’s Autumn Fielding (Jr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) scored with 14:39 left to play to give the Falcons a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Jenny Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) added 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the victory.
