4th-Ranked Falcon Men Rally for Seventh-Straight Win, 87-80

SEATTLE (Jan. 12) ­ Tony Binetti connected on a key three-pointer with 24 seconds left and finished with 21 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds as 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific University won its seventh straight game, 87-80 over Alaska Anchorage Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Chad Williams (Sr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.) added 19 points and Robbie Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) 15 for the Falcons (4-0, 12-1), who retained a share of first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

After trailing by as much as eight points in the second half, SPU took the lead for good when Jared Moultrie (6-2, Jr., West Point, Ut.) stole the ball and drove for a layup with 2 minutes, 33 seconds left.

Binetti's 22-footer from the top of the key came with the shot clock winding down and put the Falcons ahead 85-80. He added a pair of free throws with 8 seconds to go for the final margin.

Kemmy Burgess of Alaska Anchorage (2-3, 11-6) topped all players with 25 points­17 coming in the first half­and Brian Hills had 19. Burgess, under the close guarding of Moultrie, shot just 3-9 in the final period.

The Seawolves fell behind by 10 early in the game before reeling off 18 unanswered points for a 38-30 advantage. Burgess scored eight of the points as SPU went scoreless for more than five minutes.

The lead changed hands nine times and the score was tied seven times in the second half alone. Will and Williams were a combined 11-13 from the field for 26 points in the final period, when the Falcons shot 66 percent (19-29).

For the game, Seattle Pacific shot 57 percent­its fourth straight of 57 percent or better­and committed just seven turnovers. The Falcons connected on 10 of 18 three-pointers.

The Falcons, whose sole loss was at Div. I Nevada, host Alaska Fairbanks at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
