SEATTLE (Jan. 4) Shannon Lovejoy of
Seattle Pacific University has been voted the NSCAA/adidas
National Player of the Year for NCAA Division II women's soccer.
Lovejoy (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep), a
three-time All-American midfielder, scored eight goals and added
nine assists as the Falcons (20-1-4) reached the NCAA championship
game.
She scored the clinching penalty kick in a
tiebreaker during the quarterfinal round of the playoffs and added
a goal in the semifinal win. SPU was defeated by Nebraska Omaha in
overtime, 2-1, in the title game.
Over her career, Lovejoy set virtually every
Seattle Pacific single-game, season and career scoring record. She
is also the Great Northwest Athletic Conference career points
leader.
In her final season Lovejoy was voted
all-conference, all-region and first team All-American.
Her player of the year award was voted upon by
National Soccer Coaches Association of America members at Div. II
programs throughout the nation.
