Bremmerman, No. 6 Falcon Men Surge Past Crusaders, 124-107
December 31, 2005

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Dec. 31) Dustin Bremerman pumped in 23 of his career-high 38 points in the second half as 6th-ranked Seattle Pacific University came from behind to win its Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball opener, 124-107, over Northwest Nazarene Saturday at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (1-0, 9-1), playing at home for the first time in four weeks, trailed for most of the first 25 minutes before surging in front to stay and win their fourth in a row.

Mike Bushmaker (Sr., Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) came off the bench for a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds and reserve guard Jared Moultrie (Jr., 6-2, West Point, Ut.) helped hold the Crusaders' (0-1, 5-5) Ryan McCarthy to just three free throws in the final 12 minutes.

McCarthy finished with 29 points, hitting nine of the 20 NNU three-pointers, most from beyond 22 feet. Moultrie's tight defense resulted on McCarthy launching just three errant long-distance shots in the game's final 10 minutes.

A pair of decisive runs by Seattle Pacific proved to be the difference.

Trailing by eight early in the second half, Bremerman's (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) slashing drives into the lane resulted in eight points during a 15-4 burst. His total ties for the fifth-highest in school records.

A trey by Brian Lynch (Jr., 6-1, Missoula, Mt.) gave SPU the lead for good, 96-93, with 9:08 left and later, a 15-2 spree broke open the game. A layup by Chad Williams (Sr., 67-8, Burlington, Wa.) made it 113-98 with 4:26 remaining and the visitors got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Bremerman converted 8-9 field goals in the second half and was 15-21 overall. He grabbed eight rebounds. Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) scored 17 points and Williams 16.

The Falcons shot 61 percent from the field (25-35) in the final period, 63 percent for the game and accumulated a school-record 38 assists. Moultrie had seven plus five steals.

Northwest Nazarene connected on 11 of 23 three-pointers in the opening half but cooled to just 38 percent shooting (15-40) from the floor in the second period. Travis Fridrich added 25 points15 coming from outside the arc.

SPU, which has played six of its first 10 on the road, visits Western Oregon Thursday night.
