Grant and Jenny Poe combined for 39 points and 10th-ranked Seattle
Pacific University bounced back from a rare losing streak to pound
Westmont 95-66 in a non-conference women's basketball game
Saturday night at Murchison Gym.
Grant (Sr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley
Christian) led the Falcons (5-2) with 20 points on 9-of-11
shooting and Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) had 19.
SPU blew open the game early in the second
half, when it shot a torrid 67 percent (22-33) from the floor.
Already ahead by 14, Seattle Pacific went on an 19-2 run to go in
front by 31, 86-55.
Brittney Kroon (Sr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.)
contributed two baskets, two blocked shots and two assists during
the spree, and Beth Christensen (So., 5-5 Enumclaw, Wa.) had three
steals.
Seattle Pacific, coming off consecutive losses
for the first time in six years, overcame a slow start with 10
unanswered points, then took the lead for good with an 18-4 run
late in the first period.
Jackie Hollands (So., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.)
drilled a three-pointer to break a 24-all tie. Five of the
Falcons' next six baskets were scored inside, including
back-to-back layups by Kroon which put the visitors in front,
42-28.
After shooting under 44 percent in each of
their last three outings, the Falcons hit 59 percent from the
field (41-69). Their five starters shot 31-45 from the floor.
Mandy Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) added 12 points and Kroon
10.
Megan Fate led the Warriors (4-5), the
25th-ranked team in NAIA, with 16.
SPU plays Cal Poly Pomona in the first round of
the CCAA/GNAC Challenge Tuesday night in Bakersfield.
