No. 20 Nevada Deals Seattle Pacific Men First Loss, 83-57
December 13, 2005

Complete Box Score

RENO, Nev. (Dec. 13) Seattle Pacific University absorbed its first men's basketball loss of the season at the hands of 20th-ranked Nevada as Charlo Mo and Nick Fazekas combined for 33 points in an 83-57 win at the Lawlor Events Center Tuesday night.

The Falcons (5-1), ranked fifth in NCAA Division II, were paced by the 17 points and eight rebounds of center Robbie Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea).

The high-flying Mo and the 6-foot-11 Fazekas, the starting forwards, totaled 18 and 15 points, respectively, and together hit 9-of-13 field goals as the Wolf Pack (7-1) moved out to a 41-21 halftime lead. Mo connected on three of his treys, including two in the first eight minutes.

SPU closed within 47-32 four minutes into the second half on back-to-back three-pointers by Chad Williams (Sr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.) but got no closer the rest of the way.

The defeat halted the best start in six seasons for SPU. Nevada is the highest-ranked Div. I opponent for the Falcons since visiting then-No. 4-ranked Kansas in 1993-94.

Nevada never trailed but did not begin to pull away until the latter stages of the first half, with Demarshay Johnson sparking a 10-2 tear with a pair of baskets. The Wolf Pack connected on four of their first five treys, shot X percent from the field in the opening period and 53 percent (32-60) overall.

Scoring 12 of his total in the first half, Will kept SPU in contention early. Mike Bushmaker (Sr., 6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) came off the bench for a season-high 13 points, all in the second half. Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) added 12.

Seattle Pacific missed its first seven three-pointers and finished 4-19 outside the arc. It hit 40 percent (25-63) from the field and was out-rebounded 33-23, with Fazekas grabbing a game-high 10 boards.

SPU plays Missouri Southern in the opening round of the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas Saturday.
