Binetti, Will Lead SPU Men in Comeback Road Win Over Cal State L.A., 73-70
November 26, 2005

Complete Box Score

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 26) Tony Binetti scored all of his 22 points in the second half as Seattle Pacific University came from 16 points down to defeat Cal State L.A. 73-70 in the final game of the Cal State L.A. Thanksgiving Classic Saturday.

Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) and Robbie Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea-Bellevue CC), who added 19 points and 10 rebounds, combined to score the game's final seven points as the Falcons (4-0) held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the final four minutes. It's the best start for SPU since 1998-99.

Cal State L.A. (1-3) led virtually the entire contest and by as much as 16 midway through the first period. By halftime, it was ahead 40-31 and had out-rebounded the visitors 26-12, with a dozen coming on the offensive boards.

Behind Binetti's 11 points, the Falcons went on a 14-5 run early in the second half to take a brief, 51-50 lead. He hit 7-10 shots in the final period, including a pair of treys.

After CSLA moved back in front by six, Will responded. He scored eight of his point in the final seven minutes. Will's dunk off a feed from Chad Williams tied the game at 70, and he blocked a shot on the Golden Eagles' next possession.

Binetti's two free throws gave SPU a 72-70 edge and Will hit one of two at the line with 10 seconds to go. Robert Reynaga of CSLA launched a 30-foot three-point attempt which hit the backboard but not the rim as time expired.

SPU shot just 40 percent percent from the field (25-62) but committed only eight turnovers and allowed CSLA to shoot just 31 percent in the second half and 36 percent for the game. Gene Myvett had 14 points for the hosts.

The Falcons host Hawaii Pacific in the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Challenge next Saturday night.
