November 25, 2005

Complete Box Score

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 26) Robbie Will scored inside with 7 seconds left to push Seattle Pacific University past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 70-68, in the first round of the Cal State L.A. Thanksgiving Classic Friday.

Will (So., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O¹Dea-Bellevue CC) finished with 15 points to lead the Falcons (3-0), who hung on after squandering a 16-point advantage in the second half.

After the Toros (0-2) had tied the game with 41 seconds to go, SPU called timeout, then nearly exhausted the shot clock before Tony Binetti (Sr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) found Will for a layup.

Dustin Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) added 14 points for Seattle Pacific and Binetti had 11 plus eight assists.

Bremerman had scored 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, during a 28-7 run in the first half, which gave the Falcons a 43-26 lead.

The gap was 16 points early in the second period before the Toros began to pull closer. Finally, a 16-6 burst enabled them to pull even at 64-all with 4:23 remaining.

Seattle Pacific, which never trailed after the first 10 minutes, twice more took the lead on baskets by Binetti and Drew Matzen (So., Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood).

SPU shot 49 percent from the field (31-63) but was 0-8 from outside the arc in the second half and made only three trips to the foul line. Wil also grabbed six rebounds nad blocked two shots.

Mario Malave of CS Dominguez Hills led all players with 25 points.

The Falcons face host Cal State L.A. Saturday in the final game of the tournament. They host Hawaii Pacific Dec. 3.
