Poe Sparks Falcon Women to 34th Straight Home Win, 78-49

SEATTLE (Nov. 19) ­ Jenny Poe scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half as No. 3-ranked Seattle Pacific University stormed in front early and went on to beat Minnesota State Moorhead 78-49 in the final game of the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Mandy Wood (Sr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) added 12 points for the Falcons (3-0), who shot 46 percent from the field while holding the Dragons (1-2) to 27 percent.

Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) connected on a three-pointer to give SPU a 19-3 lead after just over six minutes. After the visitors cut the lead to 21-13, Poe fed Kelsey Hill (Fr., 6-3, Portland, Or./Portland Christian) inside and then drilled another trey to ignite a 13-2 charge.

Minnesota State trailed by 25 at intermission and got no closer than 20 in the final period.

Carli Grant (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for SPU, and Hill came off the bench for 11 points. Poe grabbed eight boards. Brittney Kroon (Sr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) blocked six shots.

The Dragons got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Allison Swenson. Jessica Trautwein chipped in 12 points..

It was the 34th consecutive home win for Seattle Pacific, which is now idle until hosting Lewis-Clark State Dec. 3.

Wood and Poe made the all-tournament team, and were joined by Trautwein, Linda Ogugua of Biola and Hanna Hull of Central Washington.

Central Washington (2-0) overcame a sluggish start to edge Biola (0-2) 59-56 on Hanna Hull¹s three-pointer with 14 seconds left earlier Saturday. Hull finished with a game-high 20 points. The Eagles scored the game¹s first 11 points and led by as many as 16 in the first period. But The Wildcats caught up with 10 minutes left. Biola was paced by Lindsey Richelli¹s 14 points and 13 rebounds.
