SEATTLE (Nov. 18) Dustin Bremerman
poured in a career-high 32 points to pace Seattle Pacific
University to a 95-79 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in the men's
basketball opener for both teams at the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic
Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.
Brian Lynch (Jr., 6-1, Missoula, Mt.) added 18
points and Chad Williams (Sr., 6-8, Burlington, Wa.) 16 for the
Falcons (1-0), who won their home opener for the fourth year in a
row.
The Otters (0-1), who stayed close until the
final 10 minutes, were led by the 30 of Devoughn Lamont.
Bremerman (Jr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower)
sliced his way inside for most of his 21 second-half points but
also connected on a pair of three-pointers. Still, CSMB hung on,
and was within 63-56 after Lamont powered inside with 10:50 left.
But beginning with a Bremerman layup, the
Falcons responded with 14 unanswered points, punctuated by two
three-pointers from Lynch and another from Jeff Knudson (Sr., 6-7,
Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak).
Seattle Pacific had nursed a lead throughout
the first half, drawing out to a 10-point lead after Lynch hit a
pair of perimeter jumpers, including a three-pointer, and then
putting a ball at the rim for Williams to lay in for a 40-30
advantage.
SPU shot 65 percent in the second half (15-23)
and 55 percent from the field overall. Lynch was 7-9, including
4-6 outside the arc. Bremerman was 11-17. The Falcons got nine
rebounds apiece from Williams and Robbie Will (So., 6-10, Seattle,
Wa./O'Dea) to control the boards, 47-31.

In the first men's game Cal State San
Bernardino (1-0) stormed in front, held off an early second-half
rally by Northwest Nazarene (0-1) and pulled away to an 80-56 win.
The Coyotes scored the contest's first 14
points but the Crusaders pulled within 40-37with 11:41 remaining.
Curtis Williams hit two three-pointers and Chet Johnson added
another, helping rebuild the lead to 51-40.
Johnson and Moses Gonzalez each had 13 points
and NNU was led by the 10 points of Marcus Clift.
