SEATTLE (Nov. 7) Unbeaten and
No.2-ranked Seattle Pacific University is the top seed and will
host the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Far West Regional
beginning Thursday (Nov. 10) at Interbay Stadium. All three games
of the regional tournament will be played on the Falcons' home
field, including the Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) championship
game.
Seattle Pacific (17-0-3), which was 10-0-1 at
Interbay during the regular season, will face Chico State (14-3-3)
in the nightcap of the first round. Action starts Thursday with
No. 2 seed UC San Diego (17-3-0) vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills
(14-6-2).
Game times Thursday are 4:30 and 7 p.m. The
championship game is 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Falcons, champions of the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference for the fourth time in the program's five-year
existence, opened the season with a 5-1 home victory over Chico
Aug. 27. The two teams met in the first round of the 2004
playoffs, with SPU advancing via a tiebreaker after a 2-2 draw.
Seattle Pacific beat Cal State Dominguez Hills,
2-1, on the road Sept .10, but has not met UC San Diego
previously.
The winner of the Far West will host the
Midwest champion in the quarterfinal round Nov. 19. Defending
national champion and No. 1-ranked Metro State (Co.) is the top
seed in the Midwest.
In all, 32 teams received Div. II berths
nationwide. The NCAA semifinals and championship game are Dec. 1
and 3 in Wichita Falls, Tx.
Far West Regional tickets will go on sale
beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the SPU Athletics Office
(206/281-2085) in the pavilion. Prices are $7 for general
admission ($3 for students and youth). Ticket office hours are
9-4:30 through Wednesday, and again Friday. Interbay box office
ticket windows will open at 3 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
Seattle Pacific is hosting a women's regional
for the second year in a row. A year ago, Seattle University won
the regional title.
