November 7, 2005

SEATTLE (Nov. 7) Unbeaten and No.2-ranked Seattle Pacific University is the top seed and will host the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Far West Regional beginning Thursday (Nov. 10) at Interbay Stadium. All three games of the regional tournament will be played on the Falcons' home field, including the Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) championship game.

Seattle Pacific (17-0-3), which was 10-0-1 at Interbay during the regular season, will face Chico State (14-3-3) in the nightcap of the first round. Action starts Thursday with No. 2 seed UC San Diego (17-3-0) vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills (14-6-2).

Game times Thursday are 4:30 and 7 p.m. The championship game is 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Falcons, champions of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the fourth time in the program's five-year existence, opened the season with a 5-1 home victory over Chico Aug. 27. The two teams met in the first round of the 2004 playoffs, with SPU advancing via a tiebreaker after a 2-2 draw.

Seattle Pacific beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 2-1, on the road Sept .10, but has not met UC San Diego previously.

The winner of the Far West will host the Midwest champion in the quarterfinal round Nov. 19. Defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Metro State (Co.) is the top seed in the Midwest.

In all, 32 teams received Div. II berths nationwide. The NCAA semifinals and championship game are Dec. 1 and 3 in Wichita Falls, Tx.
