SEATTLE (Nov. 7) Back in the NCAA
Division II men's soccer tournament for a record 29th time,
Seattle Pacific University is seeded No. 2 in the Far West
Regional beginning Saturday (Nov. 12) at Carson, Ca. The Falcons
will face Sonoma State in a first-round game.
Host Cal State Dominguez Hills (16-4-2) is the
top seed and received a bye. The Toros will await the winner of
Saturday's 1 p.m. game. The regional championship game will be 1
p.m. Monday.
The Falcons (14-2-3), ranked No. 5 in last
week's national coaches poll, finished the regular season on a
five-game win streak. They defeated Sonoma State 2-0 at Interbay
Stadium Sept. 3. The Seawolves (12-8-2) beat Dominguez Hills
twice, 6-0 at home and 1-0 in the CCAA title game Sunday at a
neutral site.
It was Cal State Dominguez Hills' 2-1 victory
over Seattle Pacific Sept. 10 which likely determined which the
high seed. The winning goal was scored on a deflected shot with 43
seconds remaining.
The Far West winner will face the Midwest
champion in the national quarterfinal round Nov. 19 at a site to
be determined. Fort Lewis (Co.), the No. 1 team in the nation, is
the top seed in the Midwest.
A total of 24 teams received tournament berths
nationwide. The NCAA semifinals and championship game are Dec. 1
and 3 in Wichita Falls, Tx.
