MONMOUTH, Or. (Oct. 29)—Sarah Martinez scored twice and Tricia Loomis assisted on two goals as No. 2-ranked Seattle Pacific University downed Western Oregon 3-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon at Monmouth.

With the victory, the Falcons (8-0-2/15-0-3) moved a step closer to achieving their fourth straight GNAC title. SPU is in the driver’s seat in the conference race with two regular season matches remaining. Western Oregon dropped to 4-6-0/7-11-0.

Megan Lienhard (Sr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) opened up scoring in the match at 31:44 when she put a thru-ball from Loomis (So., Des Moines, Wa./Mount Rainier) past WOU keeper Amanda Nelson.

Just under six minutes later, Martinez (So., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) gave SPU a 2-0 lead when Loomis lofted a ball into the penalty box. Martinez nodded the cross into the net (37:33).

Martinez closed out match scoring in the second half with her fifth goal in the last three games (69:40). Shannon Oakes (Fr., Boise, Id./Boise) was credited with an assist on the play. Martinez has 13 goals on the season and 30 points altogether.

Seattle Pacific outshot WOU 22-2, and held a 10-2 advantage on corner-kicks. Lisa Munyon had the lone goal for the Wolves.

The Falcons are vying for their third consecutive NCAA playoff berth, and are unbeaten in their last 55 matches (50-0-5). SPU has not lost a GNAC contest in its last 42 tries (38-0-4).

Seattle Pacific closes out its regular season with a two-game home stand beginning Wednesday night (Nov. 2) against conference foe Central Washington. A victory would clinch the GNAC title. Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.
