scored twice and Tricia Loomis assisted on two goals as No.
2-ranked Seattle Pacific University downed Western Oregon 3-1, in
a Great Northwest Athletic Conference womens soccer game
Saturday afternoon at Monmouth.
With the victory, the Falcons (8-0-2/15-0-3)
moved a step closer to achieving their fourth straight GNAC title.
SPU is in the drivers seat in the conference race with two
regular season matches remaining. Western Oregon dropped to
4-6-0/7-11-0.
Megan Lienhard (Sr., Everett, Wa./Cascade)
opened up scoring in the match at 31:44 when she put a thru-ball
from Loomis (So., Des Moines, Wa./Mount Rainier) past WOU keeper
Amanda Nelson.
Just under six minutes later, Martinez (So.,
Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) gave SPU a 2-0 lead when Loomis
lofted a ball into the penalty box. Martinez nodded the cross into
the net (37:33).
Martinez closed out match scoring in the second
half with her fifth goal in the last three games (69:40). Shannon
Oakes (Fr., Boise, Id./Boise) was credited with an assist on the
play. Martinez has 13 goals on the season and 30 points
altogether.
Seattle Pacific outshot WOU 22-2, and held a
10-2 advantage on corner-kicks. Lisa Munyon had the lone goal for
the Wolves.
The Falcons are vying for their third
consecutive NCAA playoff berth, and are unbeaten in their last 55
matches (50-0-5). SPU has not lost a GNAC contest in its last 42
tries (38-0-4).
Seattle Pacific closes out its regular season
with a two-game home stand beginning Wednesday night (Nov. 2)
against conference foe Central Washington. A victory would clinch
the GNAC title. Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.
