No. 6 SPU Men Get 12th Win on Late Coggan Goal
October 29, 2005

Complete Box Score

PHOENIX (Oct. 29) James Coggan put away the game's only goal with less than 7 minutes left as 6th-ranked Seattle Pacific University blanked Cal State Monterey Bay 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer contest Saturday night.

The Falcons (12-2-3), who also hit the post and crossbar a total of three times, finally punched through the Otters' defense in the 84th minute for their fifth win in the last six games. It was the first loss for Monterey Bay (10-8-1) in six games.

Jeremy Bonner (Sr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) set-up the score, taking a through ball from Michael Morris (Jr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) and serving a cross from the right wing. Coggan (So., San Jose, Ca.) took it down, turned and cracked a 6-yard shot into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) made three saves to earn his eighth shutout and the team's 10th.

Seattle Pacific swarmed to the attack in the first period. Colin Rigby (Jr., Mercer Island, Wa.) hit the post, Andy Willis (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wa.) the crossbar and Morris struck a shot against the upright as the game remained scoreless. Bobby Arteaga made five saves for the Otters.

SPU, which finished with a 28-9 advantage in shots and 9-5 in corner kicks, is now unbeaten in 25 straight games (23-0-2) when scoring first.
