scored the equalizer early in the first half, but No. 2-ranked
Seattle Pacific University was unable to come up with a
game-winning goal as the Falcons tied Humboldt State 1-1 OT, in a
Great Northwest Athletic Conference womens soccer match
Thursday afternoon in Arcata.
The tie kept Seattle Pacifics regular
season unbeaten streak alive at 54 matches (49-0-5). The Falcons
(14-0-3, 7-0-2 GNAC) have not lost a GNAC contest in their last 41
outings (37-0-4) and with three games left to play on the season
schedule, are vying for their fourth straight conference title.
After Humboldt States Lindsey Harpham
opened scoring in the third minute, Martinez (So., Bothell,
Wa./Cedar Park Christian) quickly equalized, finishing a rebounded
shot off Lumberjack keeper Staci Self to the left corner. Heidi
Jacobson (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian/Gonzaga) was
credited with an assist on the play (5:36).
The goal marked Martinez 11th on the
season, tying her for the team lead with Jacobson. Jacobson has a
team-high 28 points.
Keeper Jennifer Burns (Fr., Boise, Id./Capital)
registered two saves in goal for Seattle Pacific; Self finished
with four. SPU out-shot the Lumberjacks 10-8, and held a 4-3
advantage on corner-kicks.
Shannon Oakes (Fr., Boise, Id./Boise) led the
Falcons in individual shots, with three. Martinez shot twice.
Seattle Pacific plays next in a conference
match-up at Western Oregon on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 1PM. The
Falcons return to Seattle to finish out the regular season with a
two game home stand, beginning Nov. 2.
