Brornstad, Falcons Dominate UAA As No. 18 SPU Gets Sixth Straight Volleyball Sweep

ANCHORAGE, Ak. (Oct. 22) Rachel Biornstad had match highs in kills and blocks to help lead nationally ranked Seattle Pacific to a 3-0 sweep of Alaska Anchorage in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday night at UAA’s Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Falcons (11-2 GNAC, 17-5), ranked No. 18 in NCAA II, won their sixth straight match, all of them in 3-0 sweeps. Game scores were 30-22, 30-21, 30-15. The Seawolves dropped to 3-10 in the GNAC and 6-15 overall.

Biornstad (So., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) finished with 13 kills and no errors on 20 attack to hit at a whopping .650 for the match. She also led all players with eight blocks. Seattle Pacific recorded a .355 hitting percentage and had a 9-3 advantage in blocks.

Chelsey Myers (Sr. 5-10, Minden, Nv./Douglas) added 12 kills on .417 hitting and four blocks. Alyssa Given (So., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) chipped in with 10 kills, eight digs and six service aces. SPU owned a 9-3 edge in aces.

Chelsey Glines paced UAA with eight kills and hit .667 in the match, but she was the only bright spot on offense. Anchorage hit just .085 as a team. Heather Lyons added seven kills and 12 digs in the loss, and Caitlin Grenier also had seven kills.

The Falcons host Western Washington in a GNAC match Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
