No. 2 Falcon Women Tied Up by Clan at Interbay
October 19, 2005

SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 19)—Shannon Lovejoy scored off a right-side cross in the first half, but No. 2 Seattle Pacific University was unable to come up with a game-winner as the Falcons tied NAIA No. 6 Simon Fraser 1-1 in double overtime, in a non-conference women’s soccer game Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.

The tie kept Seattle Pacific’s (13-0-2) regular season unbeaten streak alive at 52 straight games (48-0-4). The Falcons have out-scored Interbay visitors 29-3 on the season.

Lovejoy (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep.) hit net from six yards to give SPU a 1-0 lead at intermission. The play began when Tricia Loomis (So., Des Moines, Wa./Mount Rainier) broke free on the right side and staged a 20-yard run down the sideline. The sophomore chipped the ball toward Lovejoy and Heidi Jacobson (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) in the middle of the penalty box.

Rushing the ball from a tough angle, Jacobson yielded to Lovejoy, who hammered home Loomis’ cross to open up scoring in the match (40:03).

The Clan equalized near the mid-point of the second half, when Hailey Rawlings beat two Falcon defenders on a fleet-footed run down the left side. Rawlings put an 18-yard blank past onrushing SPU keeper Katie Ruggles (Jr., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) (61:23).

Seattle Pacific peppered the Simon Fraser goal with several shots in the second overtime period, as Jacobson and Sarah Martinez (So., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) put together back-to-back scoring attempts with 6:40 left to play.

Jacobson nodded a Meredith Teague (Fr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian) cross into the out-stretched hands of Clan keeper Michele Gademans. Less than a minute later, Martinez controlled a thru-ball from Lovejoy, but was unable to capitalize as Gademans made another save.

Gademans finished the match with a dozen saves. Overall, Seattle Pacific out-shot Simon Fraser 23-5 and led six to two in corner-kicks. Ruggles saved one shot.

The Falcons finish out a two-game home stand Saturday night (Oct. 22) with a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match versus Northwest Nazarene. Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.
