SEATTLE (Oct. 14) Jeff Hallenbeck struck
for two second-half goals as 9th-ranked Seattle Pacific University
came from behind to extend its home unbeaten string to 11 games
with a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer win over Notre Dame de
Namur (Ca.) Friday night at Interbay Stadium.
Matt Kemper (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) headed
home the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute for the Falcons
(10-2-3), who have won three of their last four.
Hallenbeck (So., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) got
his first collegiate multi-goal game and constantly created
problems for the Argonauts (8-8-1) defense, firing seven shots.
He brought SPU level at 1-1 early in the second
half, taking a through ball from Ross Vaillancourt (Sr., Bedford,
NH) and slamming his 18-yard shot off an onrushing NDNU keeper
David Montgomery and into the net.
Kemper's goal came 8 minutes later. A left-wing
cross from Nick Letts (Sr., Dublin, Ca.) found Kemper unmarked in
front and his crisp header went to the lower right corner.
During a downpour, Hallenbeck clinched the
victory, drilling the ball under Montgomery from 10 yards at
78:01. It was his fourth goal of the season. Michael Morris (Jr.,
Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) had the assist.
Seattle Pacific allowed its first goal at home
when Notre Dame opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Anton Del
Rosario curled a 22-yard free kick into the upper right corner.
The Falcons played without Andy Willis, the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference scoring leader, who had
accumulated five cautions.
SPU out-shot NDNU 19-7 and held a 9-7 edge in
corners.
The Falcons resume GNAC play next Saturday at
Humboldt State.
