SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 12)Megan Lienhard
scored early in the first half of play to boost No. 2-ranked
Seattle Pacific University to a Great Northwest Athletic
Conference win over Western Washington 1-0, Wednesday night in
Bellingham.
The victory pushed the Falcons
(6-0-1/13-0-1) regular season unbeaten streak to 51 straight games
(48-0-3). SPU has not lost a GNAC match in its last 39 tries
(36-0-3).
Lienhard (Sr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) scored
unassisted in the third minute, putting a hard shot past Vikings
keeper Theresa Fish at 2:46. The goal was Lienhards fifth of
the season.
Seattle Pacific out-shot Western 11-9, and held
a 2-1 advantage on corner-kicks. Falcon keeper Jennifer Burns
(Fr., Boise, Id./Capital) registered five saves on the match
including a pair in the closing three minutes, while Fish finished
with two.
With five conference games left to play,
Seattle Pacific is seeking its third straight GNAC title. The
Falcons have been to the NCAA playoffs in each of the last two
seasons. Western dropped to 4-3-0/7-5-0.
SPU returns to its home turf of Interbay to
host Simon Fraser to begin a two match home stand Oct. 19.
