SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 8)-Tricia Loomis and Allison
Teague each scored goals in the second half to lift No. 2 Seattle
Pacific University over Seattle University 2-1 in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday
afternoon at Championship Field.
The victory enabled Seattle Pacific
(12-0-1/5-0-1) to tighten its hold on first place in the GNAC and
pushed the Falcons' unbeaten streak to 38 straight conference
matches (35-0-3). Seattle University slipped to 10-4-0/4-2-0.
After a scoreless first half, Loomis (So., Des
Moines, Wa.) staked SPU a 1-0 lead when she ripped a 22-yard shot
to the upper right corner of the net (57:07). Teague (Sr.,
Redmond, Wa.) started the play by winning the ball in traffic near
the 18-yard line, and dropping it back toward Loomis.
Minutes later (70:22) Teague struck to give the
Falcons a 2-0 advantage. With her back to the SU goal, the senior
midfielder took a bouncy ball near the 18, and chipped it over
several SU defenders and by keeper Ashley Angerer.
Seattle University pulled to within one at
87:39 following a free-kick, when Jasmine Wilson beat Falcon
keeper Jennifer Burns (Fr., Boise, Id.) from eight yards with
assistance from Leah Wymer. The Redhawks were unable to equalize
as time ticked away.
SU out-shot Seattle Pacific 21-17, but the
Falcons held a slight edge on corner-kicks, six to four. SPU's two
second-half scores came out of five shots in the period.
In goal, Burns saved seven shots including a
flip over the crossbar of a Cassy Smith blank at 36:00, and a
diving save off Ana Gurierrez' blast from 12-yards, five minutes
later. Angerer registered five saves for Seattle U.
Seattle Pacific plays at Western Washington on
