18th-Ranked Falcons Snap Losing Streak in Dominant Fashion

SEATTLE (Oct. 6) – Seattle Pacific held Saint Martin’s to record lows in kills and hitting percentage, as the Falcons snapped a two-match losing streak with a dominant sweep of the Saints in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (6-2 GNAC, 12-5), ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, recorded a .366 hitting percentage and held the Saints (0-8, 0-14) to a negative .115 percentage. Seattle Pacific nearly had as many blocks (eight) as Saint Martin’s did kills (12) in the 30-12, 30-10, 30-11 victory. Both totals for Saint Martin’s were all-time GNAC lows. SPU finished with 46 kills as a team.

Alyssa Given (So., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) had a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs in the victory. Rachel Biornstad (So., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) chipped in with 10 kills and led all players with five block assists.

Seattle Pacific set the tone early, scoring 15 of the first 20 points in Game 1, and finished with a .429 hitting percentage in the first frame. The Falcons also got off to great starts in games two (12-3) and three (15-3) in a match that lasted just 1 hour, 8 minutes.

The Falcons recorded 11 service aces to just one by the Saints. Angie Wodrich (So., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) led the way with four aces to go along with five kills and six digs. SPU setter Jenna Von Moos (Jr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) finished with five kills, 35 assists and three blocks.

Keana Morrisey led the Saints with four kills in the match. Andrea Tarbet added three kills and eight digs.

The Falcons host cross-city rival Seattle University in a GNAC match Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
