SEATTLE (Oct. 3) ­ Matt Kemper was selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer player of the week after his defensive play helped Seattle Pacific University post two shutout wins at home.

Kemper (So., Colorado Springs, Co./Palmer), who was converted from midfield to sweeper two weeks into the season, excelled in both organizing the back line and breaking up attacks before they reached the penalty box. He also fired a strong shot which required a save by the Simon Fraser keeper in a 2-0 win. SPU had beaten Western Washington 3-0 earlier.
