SEATTLE (Sept. 24) Held scoreless for
the first time, No. 7-ranked Seattle Pacific University settled
for a 0-0 overtime draw with Humboldt State in its opening Great
Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer game before a
near-capacity crowd at Interbay Stadium Saturday night.
The Falcons (7-1-3) were the aggressor
throughout the 110 minutes, out-shooting the Lumberjacks (7-5-1)
21-8. SPU is now unbeaten in five consecutive games and has not
allowed a goal at home this season.
Andy Willis (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wa.), the GNAC
scoring leader, produced Seattle Pacific's two closest scoring
opportunities in a foul-plagued match.
In the first half , Willis slid an 18-yard shot
past the left post in the 18th minute. With 26 minutes left in
regulation, he fired through a crowd from 20 yards, just wide of
the left post.
Ross Vaillancourt (Sr., Bedford, NH) ran onto a
ball from Colin Rigby with 90 seconds left in the second overtime
but Humboldt keeper Brendan Bourdage came off his line to smother
the ball at Vaillancourt's feet.
Bourdage was credited with one save and the
Falcons' Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) made two to
post his fifth shutout and the team's seventh.
