18th-Ranked Falcons Stay Red Hot With Sweep of Seawolves

SEATTLE (Sept. 22) – Alyssa Given led the Falcons in kills for the third straight match as Seattle Pacific swept Alaska Anchorage in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match on Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (4-0 GNAC, 10-3), ranked No. 18 in the NCAA II national poll, picked up their fifth straight win of the season with the 30-17, 30-20, 30-26 victory. SPU has won eight of its past nine league matches dating back to 2004. Anchorage fell to 1-4 in GNAC play and 4-9 overall.

Given (So., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) finished with a match-high 17 kills and recorded a .324 hitting percentage. Given, who also had 12 digs, smashed seven kills in Game 1 alone to help SPU capture the early momentum. The Falcons never looked back, receiving solid contributions across the board.

Rachel Biornstad (So., 6-0, Kent, Wa./Kentlake) added 11 kills and four blocks in the win. Whitney Dibble (Jr., 6-1, Reno, Nv./Galena) and Angie Wodrich (So., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) finished with eight kills apiece. Myers hit at a .500 clip, while Wodrich added nine digs. Seattle Pacific hit a blistering .299 as a team.

The Falcon defense was sharp as well, holding Anchorage to a dismal .078 hitting percentage. Seattle Pacific also did not allow an opposing player to reach double figures in kills for the third time in the past four matches.

Heather Lyons led Anchorage with eight kills. Chelsey Glines added six kills and two blocks in the loss.

Jenna Von Moos (Jr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) finished with four kills on .571 hitting to go along with a match-high 40 assists, six digs and two blocks for SPU. The Falcons totaled 58 kills and held Anchorage to just 29. SPU gave the visitors some help with 13 service errors.

The Falcons host Alaska Fairbanks in a GNAC match on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
