Given Shines Again As 20th-Ranked Falcons Stay Perfect in GNAC Volleyball
September 17, 2005

Complete Box Score

ARCATA, Ca. (Sept. 17) – Alyssa Given followed up a career night two days ago with a match-high 18 kills to lead Seattle Pacific to a 3-1 victory over Humboldt State in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday night at HSU’s East Gym.

The Falcons, ranked No. 20 in NCAA II, improved to 3-0 in the GNAC and 9-3 overall with their fourth straight win. Game scores were 30-18, 24-30, 38-36, 30-22. SPU has won seven of its past eight league matches dating back to last season. The Lumberjacks fell to 1-3 in league and 5-7 overall this year.

Given (So., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) recorded an efficient .296 hitting percentage and also had 13 digs as the only SPU player in double figures in kills. Jenna Von Moos (Jr., 5-10, Stanwood, Wa.) added six kills, 40 assists and 17 digs. Torii Mount (Fr., 5-2, Gresham, Or.) anchored the Seattle Pacific defense with 27 digs.

After an easy win in the first game, the Falcons dropped the second and were pushed to the limit by a pesky Humboldt State team in Game 3. SPU got a kill from Katie Ralph (Sr., 6-0, Port Orchard, Wa./South Kitsap) to fend off the first of four game points before scoring three straight, capped by a kill from Given, to close out the game and capture the momentum of the match.

Ralph, who missed two matches last week and was limited in action tonight and on Thursday after dislocating a thumb in practice, finished with seven kills and five blocks. She hit at a .278 clip for the Falcons.

Kristen Kinzer had 15 kills for Humboldt and hit .387 for the match. Courtney Lee added 12 kills and 27 digs in the loss. Katie Norkunas finished with 11 kills and 21 digs, and Maya Domoto had a match-high 37 digs.

SPU hit .134 as a team, and Humboldt hit .123. The Jacks actually had a 60-53 advantage in kills and a 115-89 advantage in digs. The Falcons, however, were aided by 14 HSU service errors and 11 team blocks.

The Falcons host Alaska Anchorage in a GNAC match on Thursday (Sep. 22) at 7:30 p.m.
