SPU Men Come From Behind to Beat Metro State in Road Finale
September 17, 2005

Complete Box Score

DENVER (Sept. 17) Jeremy Bonner's goal on a 40-yard blast capped a comeback by 10th-ranked Seattle Pacific University in the final 15 minutes as it beat Metro State 3-2 in a men's soccer game Saturday afternoon.

In the final minute of play, Falcons (6-1-2) keeper Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) dived to blocked a shot from 4 yards out by the Roadrunners' Phillip Owen and Drew Macha (So., Eugene, Or.) cleared the ball to preserve the win.

Seattle Pacific rallied from a 2-1 deficit with goals less than three minutes apart. Daniel Carpenter (Fr., Santa Cruz, Ca.) chested down a flick from Colin Rigby (Jr., Mercer Island, Wa.) and buried a 12-yard drive in the net at 76:28 for his third goal of the season.

Carpenter then sprung Bonner (Sr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake), whose blast found the upper corner through the thin, mile-high air.

Jeff Hallenbeck (So., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor) had given the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, forcing a turnover and then converting from 10 yards.

Three minutes later, Shaun Elbaum tied it, and Metro State (4-2-0) took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half as Garrett Sadusky scored at the front of the box on a pass from Elbaum.

Steve Spencer (Jr., Scottsdale, Az.) hit the ŒRunners' post midway through the second period, and initiated the scoring sequence on the tying goal with a corner kick to Rigby.

SPU out-shot 17-12 but each team had five corners and three saves.

Seattle Pacific completed the two-week, five-game road trip with three wins and a tie. It hosts Grand Canyon Tuesday night at Interbay Stadium.
