NAMPA, Id. (Sept. 16)--Heidi Jacobson scored
first and last for her sixth and seventh goals of the season as
nationally 3rd-ranked Seattle Pacific University cruised by
Northwest Nazarene 4-0, in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
womens soccer season opener Friday afternoon in Nampa.
The Falcons (7-0-0/1-0-0) landed three goals in
the second half of play, as they peppered the Northwest Nazarene
goal with 23 shots on the afternoon. Jacobson (Sr., Kirkland, Wa.)
put the final bookend on scoring in the 69th-minute, unassisted.
Seattle Pacific boosted its regular season
unbeaten streak to 44 (42-0-2) games with the victory. The Falcons
have not dropped a GNAC contest in 33 tries, a streak that dates
back to 2002, and have been to NCAA playoffs the past two seasons.
NNU moved to 2-5-0/0-1-0.
Jennifer Burns (Fr., Boise, Id.) was forced
into just two saves in goal for Seattle Pacific as the defense
held NNU to three shots overall; Crusader keeper Amanda Merrell
had 10. SPU finished ahead in the corner-kick ratio 9-1.
Jacobson tallied her sixth goal on the season
four minutes into the match, off a long cross from teammate
Shannon Lovejoy (Sr., Seattle, Wa.). The senior forward controlled
the ball near the 18-yard line and beat Merrell to the left post.
Megan Lienhard (Sr., Everett, Wa.) scored at
52:22 and turned around 12 minutes later to combine with Lacey
Keyser (Fr., Eugene, Or.) in assisting Meredith Teague (Fr.,
Redmond, Wa.) on her first strike of the season. Lienhard has four
scores on the year.
The Falcons return to Seattle for a season long
four game home stand, beginning Monday with a non-conference
match-up with Grand Canyon. Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.
