Willis Deuce Nets SPU Men Road Win Over Roadrunners
September 12, 2005

Complete Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Sept. 12) Andy Willis scored two goals within an 11-minute span of the first half and No. 5-ranked Seattle Pacific University went on to beat Far West Region rival Cal State Bakersfield 2-0 in a men's soccer game Monday night.

The Falcons (5-1-1) pressured the Roadrunners (2-3-0) into numerous turnovers and Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) made just two routine saves in posting the team's fifth shutout.

Willis (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wa./Gig Harbor) scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season, both on assists from Steve Spencer (Jr., Scottsdale, Az.), during the first 26 minutes of the match.

A left-wing cross from Spencer found Willis for an 8-yard blast into the upper right corner at 14:38. Later, at 25:06, Spencer won possession near the top of the box and fed Willis for a goal from point-blank range past Bakersfield keeper Marc Perez.

In the last 18 games in which it has scored first, Seattle Pacific's record is 17-0-1. This was the Falcons' first win over the Roadrunners since 2000.

Coach Cliff McCrath revamped his lineup, with Spencer among four new starters following Saturday's loss at No. 12 Cal State Dominguez Hills. McCrath credited central defenders Greg Truax (Sr., Corvallis, Or.) and Kye Taylor (Sr., Powell River, BC) with shutting down the CSB attack.

Seattle Pacific's five-game, two-week road trip continues Wednesday at Denver against Regis.
