SEATTLE (Sept. 10) – Chelsey Myers had a match-high 14 kills, and Seattle Pacific’s defense flattened Northwest Nazarene as the Falcons cruised to an easy 3-0 sweep in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball opener for both teams on Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons, ranked No. 24 in NCAA II, improved to 1-0 in the GNAC and 7-3 overall with their second straight sweep. Game scores were 30-16, 30-26, 30-17. The Crusaders fell to 0-1 and 2-7.

Myers (Sr., 5-10, Minden, Nev./Douglas) committed just two errors and finished with a .500 hitting percentage. Alyssa Given (So., 5-10, Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) added 11 kills, nine digs and three service aces.

Seattle Pacific hit .271 for the match and held NNU to just .069 behind a stifling defense. The Falcons finished with 50 digs, while NNU had just 35. SPU also had a 13-7 advantage in blocks and a 12-5 edge in service aces.

Torii Mount (Fr., 5-2, Gresham, Or.) led all players with 17 digs in the victory. Angie Wodrich (So., 5-10, Richland, Wa.) finished with eight kills, 11 digs, six blocks and five service aces.

The Crusaders did not have a player with double figures in kills or digs. Allison James led NNU with seven kills. Lindsey Fryer had five kills and eight digs.

The Falcons travel to Monmouth Or. to take on Western Oregon University in GNAC action Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
