Carpenter's OT Goal Nets Falcon Men Third Straight Win

POMONA, Calif. (Sept. 6) ­ Daniel Carpenter came off the bench to deliver the game-winning goal early in the first overtime as No. 5-ranked Seattle Pacific University opened a five-game road trip by beating Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 at Kellogg Field Tuesday night.

The Falcons (4-0-1), off to their best start in 14 years and winners of three straight, got four saves from keeper Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) for the team's fourth shutout. Cal Poly (1-1-2) suffeCarpenter (Fr., Santa Cruz, Ca.) took a feed from Michael Morris (Jr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) and raced past a defender on the right wing before cutting inside and slamming a 17-yard shot into the far left corner at 91:47.

Seattle Pacific had three strong scoring opportunities from James Coggan (So., San Jose, Ca.), Ross Vaillancourt (Sr., Bedford, NH) and Morris in the final 15 minutes of the scoreless regulation. Rosten tipped a 10-yard drive by the Broncos' Dawit Berhanu over the crossbar in the 82nd minute.

It was the Falcons' 12th win over Cal Poly in 13 meetings. They finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots. Andy Willis (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wa.) was held scoreless for the first time as CPP goalie Tim Sisk stopped seven shots.
