SEATTLE (Sept. 3) Heidi Jacobson and
Carolyn Nason each connected on first-half goals as 9th-ranked
Seattle Pacific University kept its perfect record intact with a
4-0 non-conference victory over Sonoma State at Interbay Stadium
Saturday night.
Shannon Oakes (Fr., Boise, Id./Boise) and
Jessica Gerstmann (So., Puyallup, Wa./Cascade Christian-WSU) got
their first goals as Falcons, both in the second period. SPU
(3-0-0) is now unbeaten in 40 consecutive regular season games.
Jacobson (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park
Christian) converted on Seattle Pacific's first shot of the game,
finishing a quick passing exchange with a 12-yard drive inside the
near post in the 13th minute.
The Seawolves (1-2-0) had a chance to tie it
midway through the first half. Jessie Manzer fired from 16 yards
but SPU defender Mollie Taylor blocked the ball at the left post.
Nason (Jr., Lafayette, Co.)made it 2-0 in the
36th minute, nodding home a corner kick from Michelle
Everson.Nason and Jacobson have scored in each game.
Oakes gave the Falcons a fast start to the
second half, curling a 25-yard ball into the upper right corner at
48:47. Gerstmann latched on to a feed from Samantha Hufford (Jr.,
Sammamish,Wa./Eastlake) and sent it first-time into the right
corner from 14 yards at 77:06.
Jen Burns (Fr., Boise, Id./Capital) made three
saves and shared the shutout with Katie Ruggles (Jr., Eugene,
Or./South Eugene) replacing her for the final 10 minutes.
SPU finished with advantages of 11-5 in shots
and 7-2 in corner kicks.
Seattle Pacific goes on the road for the next
four games, beginning Wednesday at Cal Poly Pomona.
