SEATTLE (Aug. 31) Andy Willis continued
his season-opening scoring tear with a pair of goals as Seattle
Pacific University remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win over San
Francisco State in a nonconference men's soccer game at Interbay
Stadium Wednesday night.
Ross Vaillancourt (Sr., Bedford, NH) and Daniel
Carpenter (Fr., Santta Cruz, Ca.) broke open the game late in the
first half, scoring goals 2 minutes, 7 seconds apart for a 3-0
Falcons lead.
Willis (Jr., Gig Harbor, Wa./Gig Harbor),
finding the net in his third straight game, put SPU (2-0-1) in
front in the 13th minute by rounding a defender and the keeper
before slotting the ball in the net from 10 yards. He added his
second goal and fourth of the season 10 minutes into the second
period.
James Coggan (So., San Jose, Ca.) came off the
bench to set-up the two quick strikes. Coggan found Vaillancourt
at the top of the box, and Vaillancourt ripped his drive into the
upper left corner. Eleven seconds before halftime, a Coggan cross
from the right wing was headed past Gators keeper Kenny
Brandenburg from 8 yards.
Coggan has six goals and four assists in his
last eight home games.
Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) made
two saves before coming out and sharing the shutout with Ben
Lovelace (Fr., Cupertino, Ca.).
Brandenburg was peppered with 18 SPU shots and
made five saves. San Francisco State (1-1-0), which has not beaten
Seattle Pacific in 11 tries, managed five shots.
The Falcons host Sonoma State Saturday night at
7 before going on the road for the next five games.
