SEATTLE, Wa. (Aug. 30)—Megan Lienhard led four different Falcons in scoring as 9th-ranked Seattle Pacific University rolled over Biola 5-0 in a non-conference women’s soccer game Tuesday night at Interbay Stadium.

With the victory, Seattle Pacific improved to 2-0, and upped its regular season unbeaten streak to 39 straight games. The Falcons have been to the NCAA Division II tournament each of the last two years.

Lienhard (Sr., Everett, Wa.) broke open the match early with a fleet-footed breakaway run from 40-yards in the third minute (3:09), by taking over a Michelle Everson (Sr., Tacoma, Wa.) through-ball at mid-field. Just over a minute later, Heidi Jacobson (Sr., Kirkland, Wa.) hit net on a nearly identical play via midfielder Kara Hamby (So., Spokane, Wa.), beating Biola keeper Hilary Dunham to make it 2-0 (4:26).

Lienhard capped all scoring in the match at 70:25 with a 12 yard blank to the right post. Shannon Lovejoy (Sr., Seattle, Wa.) was credited with an assist on the play. Earlier, the All-American midfielder buried a penalty kick to give the Falcons a 4-0 advantage in the 59th-minute.

Biola’s best scoring attempt came during the second half of play, when midfielder Jessica Greene ripped a shot from 25 yards that hit the center of the SPU crossbar.

Falcon keeper Jennifer Burns (Fr., Boise, Id.) earned the shutout in goal, saving three balls while Dunham registered nine. Carolyn Nason (Jr., Broomfield, Co.), who did a thorough job on the back line shutting down the majority of Biola’s attacks, managed her second goal in as many games with an unassisted strike from 12-yards just before intermission.

Offensive-minded Seattle Pacific out shot the Eagles 19-5, and earned four corner kicks to Biola’s two. Keepers Katie Ruggles (Jr., Eugene, Or.) and Erin Pierce (Sr., Milwaukie, Or.) split second-half time in goal for SPU.

The Falcons conclude their season opening, three-game home stand Saturday evening when they host the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Sonoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30PM.
