Falcon Men Earn 2-2 Draw With Fresno Pacific
August 27, 2005

Box Score

CHICO, Calif. (Aug. 27) Steve Spencer's goal in the 63rd minute earned Seattle Pacific University a 2-2 tie with Fresno Pacific in a nonconference men's soccer game Saturday night at University Stadium.

Andy Willis also scored, his second goal in as many games, and the Falcons (1-0-1) had a potential game-winning score called back in the first overtime period.

Spencer (Jr., Scottsdale, Az.), a substitute midfielder, drilled an 18-yard shot into the far corner off an assist by Colin Rigby (Jr., Mercer Island, Wa.). Six minutes into the first extra period, Spencer put Daniel Carpenter through for a 15-yard shot into the net but Carpenter was ruled offside.

Fresno Pacific (0-1-1) had taken a 2-1 lead early in the second half on Marcus Cabello's goal. Jarde Dugger had tied the game in the 23rd minute.

Willis, who had delivered the game-winner in Thursday's win over Chico State, staked SPU to 1-0 lead in the 7th minute, drilling in a corner kick from Jeff Hallenbeck (So., Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor).

The Sunbirds out-shot Seattle Pacific 18-13 and had a 10-6 edge in corner kicks. Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado Springs, Co.) made eight saves for the Falcons, all in the second half.

Off to its best start in three years, SPU returns home to face San Francisco State Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.
