CHICO, Calif. (Aug. 27) Steve Spencer's
goal in the 63rd minute earned Seattle Pacific University a 2-2
tie with Fresno Pacific in a nonconference men's soccer game
Saturday night at University Stadium.
Andy Willis also scored, his second goal in as
many games, and the Falcons (1-0-1) had a potential game-winning
score called back in the first overtime period.
Spencer (Jr., Scottsdale, Az.), a substitute
midfielder, drilled an 18-yard shot into the far corner off an
assist by Colin Rigby (Jr., Mercer Island, Wa.). Six minutes into
the first extra period, Spencer put Daniel Carpenter through for a
15-yard shot into the net but Carpenter was ruled offside.
Fresno Pacific (0-1-1) had taken a 2-1 lead
early in the second half on Marcus Cabello's goal. Jarde Dugger
had tied the game in the 23rd minute.
Willis, who had delivered the game-winner in
Thursday's win over Chico State, staked SPU to 1-0 lead in the 7th
minute, drilling in a corner kick from Jeff Hallenbeck (So.,
Redmond, Wa./Inglemoor).
The Sunbirds out-shot Seattle Pacific 18-13 and
had a 10-6 edge in corner kicks. Kellen Rosten (So., Colorado
Springs, Co.) made eight saves for the Falcons, all in the second
half.
Off to its best start in three years, SPU
returns home to face San Francisco State Wednesday night at
Interbay Stadium.
