SEATTLE (July 7) Paul Mach has become
Seattle Pacific University's third winner of an NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship this year.
Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King's), a track and
field All-American and Academic All-American, becomes the Falcons'
18th NCAA honoree. Earlier this year soccer's Jennifer Hull and
gymnast Corrie McDaniel earned postgraduate scholarships.
It marks the first time Seattle Pacific student
athletes have won three times in one year. Mach is the first male
track and field athlete since 1998 and the program's third
overall.
Mach, a computer science major with a 3.76 GPA,
finished fourth in the NCAA 800 meters after winning the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference title while setting a conference
record. He ranks No. 2 all-time among SPU 800 runners and 400
hurdlers, and is a member of the record-holding 1600 relay.
Last month, Mach repeated as an Academic
All-American, and received the Falcon Award for Excellence.
The NCAA has awarded 58 postgraduate
scholarships of $7,500 each to 29 male student-athletes and 29
female student-athletes who participated in spring sports.
Including fall and winter sports, a total of 170 postgraduate
scholarships were awarded.
