SEATTLE (June 21) Seattle Pacific
University track and field standout Paul Mach has been named to
the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team for the
second year in a row.
Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King's), who made the
second team, becomes the Falcons' first repeat track Academic
All-American since Matt Cooper in 1997-98 and the third overall.
Mach, a computer science major with a 3.76 GPA,
and was All-American and finished fourth in the NCAA 800 meters
last month after winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
title while setting a conference record. He finished first or
second in eight of 10 races.
Earlier, Mach had been honored for his class
work by being named to the Academic All-District and Academic
all-GNAC teams, and was both an SPU scholar athlete and Falcon
Award for Excellence winner. Mach is a finalist for an NCAA
Postgraduate Scholarship.
Nathan Carlson of Saint Martin's, Puget Sound's
Frank Pierce and Whitworth's Aaron Coe were also included on the
list of 45 recipients.
