SEATTLE (June 14) Track and field
national champions Danielle Ayers-Stamper and Chris Randolph of
Seattle Pacific University were selected as the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference female athlete and male co-athlete of the
year, respectively, for all sports during 2004-05.

Chris Randolph was named
the GNAC male Co-Athlete of the Year for all sports. He
earlier had been named the indoor and outdoor track athlete of
the year. |
Ayers-Stamper (Jr., Lacrosse, Wa.) becomes the
third SPU female to earn the award in four years. Randolph (Jr.,
Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) shared his award with Bobby
McAlister, a soccer All-American from Seattle University.
"Both Chris and Danielle truly had
remarkable years," said their coach, Jack Hoyt. "In
the decathlon and heptathlon, staying healthy is half the
battle, and what they accomplished did not come without an awful
lot of hard work.
"For Chris to win the decathlon, he was
forced to take his body right to the edge," said Hoyt. "And
late in the season, I wondered if Danielle had crossed that
line, with all that she was doing. She needed some rest before
nationals, but got through it."
Randolph, winner of the NCAA Division II
decathlon title, swept the indoor and outdoor track GNAC athlete
of the year awards. At last month's national meet he set a GNAC
record with a score of 7309 points.
