Falcons' Ayers-Stamper, Randolph Win Top Honors in GNAC Track

SEATTLE (June 9) -- Seattle Pacific University multi-event athletes Chris Randolph and Danielle Ayers-Stamper have been selected the Great Northwest Athletic Conference male and female track and field athletes of the year.

It is the second GNAC award for both. Randolph (Jr., Lone Tree, Co./Denver Christian) shared the honor last season while Ayers-Stamper (Jr., Lacrosse, Wa.) won the award two years ago.

Randolph claimed the NCAA Division II title in the decathlon­the first title for an SPU male athlete in 13 years­with a GNAC record score of 7309 points. He also finished second in the conference meet in the 400 meters (49.42), fourth in the long jump (21-4¼) and seventh in the high jump (6-2).

Ayers-Stamper earned All-American honors in two events at the national meet, placing second in the heptathlon with a GNAC record score of 5606 and seventh in the 100 hurdles (14.39). In the conference meet, she won the 100 hurdles (13.82), high jump (5-8½) and long jump (19-0¼) and finished third in the javelin (138-7). All three of her winning marks were meet records.

The Falcons' Kelsey Cooley (Fr., Missoula, Mt./Hellgate) was voted the GNAC female freshman of the year. Cooley placed eighth in the NCAA heptathlon with a career-best point total of 4926 to earn All-American honors. In the conference meet, she finished second in the heptathlon (4842), fourth in the long jump (17-3½), fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.03) and eighth in the 200 (26.0) and high jump (5-2¼).
