SEATTLE (June 8) Mary Moriarty, a
standout distance runner for Seattle's Ballard High School, has
signed a national letter of intent to compete in both cross
country and track and field for Seattle Pacific University next
season.
Moriarty was the KingCo 4A runner-up in the
3200 meters this spring and ranked among the top seven in that
event statewide going into the state championship meet. Her best
time was 10 minutes, 59.72 seconds. She was also fourth in the
KingCo 1600. Last fall she qualified for the state cross country
meet.
Next season Moriarty will join a Seattle
Pacific University cross country team which has won its conference
seven times in the last 12 years and finished second in 2004. The
track team is coming off a 13th-place finish in NCAA Division II.
