Ballard Runner Moriarty Coming Across Canal to SPU
June 8, 2005

SEATTLE (June 8) Mary Moriarty, a standout distance runner for Seattle's Ballard High School, has signed a national letter of intent to compete in both cross country and track and field for Seattle Pacific University next season.

Moriarty was the KingCo 4A runner-up in the 3200 meters this spring and ranked among the top seven in that event statewide going into the state championship meet. Her best time was 10 minutes, 59.72 seconds. She was also fourth in the KingCo 1600. Last fall she qualified for the state cross country meet.

Next season Moriarty will join a Seattle Pacific University cross country team which has won its conference seven times in the last 12 years and finished second in 2004. The track team is coming off a 13th-place finish in NCAA Division II.
