SEATTLE (June 3) Four members of the
Seattle Pacific University track and field program -- Linda Blake,
Karen Dickson, Tim LeCount and Paul Mach -- have been voted to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII team.
Blake (Jr., Richland, Wa.), Mach (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./King's) and LeCount (Sr., Battle Ground, Wa.) are repeat
selections. Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) made the women's
team for the first time. All are now finalists for the Academic
All-America team, to be announced later this month.
LeCount, a history major with a 3.72 grade
point average, won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
championship in cross country and the 5000-meter title in track.
He broke the SPU school record in the 10,000 and led the Falcons
to the GNAC team title and 19th in the NCAA Championships last
fall.
Mach, a computer science major with a 3.76 GPA,
and was All-America and finished fourth in the NCAA 800 meters
last week after winning the GNAC title while setting a conference
record. He finished first or second in eight of 10 races.
A chemistry major with a 3.95 GPA, Blake just
missed making the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon with the
No. 15 score in the nation. She finished fourth in the GNAC.
Dickson, a biology major with a 3.54, was
All-American in both cross country, taking fourth nationally, and
in the NCAA indoor 5000, placing second. She won GNAC titles in
cross country and the indoor mile. This spring she set a league
record in the outdoor 10,000.
