SHORELINE, Wash. (May 12) Linda Blake of
Seattle Pacific University parlayed a personal record in the high
jump into the first-day lead of the heptathlon at the Ken Foreman
Invitational, held Thursday at Woolsey Stadium.
Blake (Jr., Richland, Wa.) scored 2845 points
over four events, slightly ahead of her pace at the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference championships last month. Liz Fuller
of Washington and Chloe Hewitt of British Columbia are tied for
second with 2701. Bridgette Sexton (Fr., LaCenter, Wa.) of SPU is
sixth with 2477.
Blake won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6
inches. She was also second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.19).
In the men's decathlon, Josh Freeman of Western
Washington holds the lead after five events at 3432. The Falcons'
Josh Childress (Fr., Arlington, Wa.) was next at 3160. Both are
behind their scores after the first day of the GNAC meet when both
made the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list.
The heptathlon concludes with the long jump,
javelin and 800 run Friday. The decathlon's final events are the
110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500.
Saturday's main portion of the Foreman
Invitational begins at 9 a.m. at Husky Stadium.
