BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Apr. 29) Paul Mach
ran the third-fastest 800 meters in Seattle Pacific University
history and was among nine Falcon winners Friday night at the
Western Washington Twilight track and field meet in Civic Stadium.
Danielle Ayers-Stamper (Jr., LaCrosse, Wa.)
threw for season-best marks in winning the javelin and shot put
and just missed qualifying for her fifth NCAA Division II
championship event to pace the SPU women.
Despite cool, windy conditions, Mach (Sr.,
Seattle, Wa./King's) clipped 1.27 seconds off his personal record
to cross the line in 1 minute, 51. 56 seconds and claim his fourth
win in six outings. Andy prentice of Saint Martin's was second in
1:53.11.
Ayers-Stamper came within 3 inches of the
provisional standard in the javelin with a PR throw of 133-9. She
won by more than 20 feet. Her shot flew 38-10¼. She has
already qualified in the heptathlon, long jump, high jump and 100
hurdles.
Kinyatta Leonhardt (So., Petaluma, Ca.) coasted
to victory in the 400 (58.49) and Jennifer Marsh (So., Kirkland,
Wa./Juanita) took the 800 (2:18.59). They then teamed with Jean
Kolb and Ayers-Stamper to win the 1600 relay (4:02.38).
Running in her hometown, Karin Rohde (Fr.,
Bellingham, Wa./Mount Baker) was clocked in a career-best 10:31.53
in taking first in the 3000. Amy Harris (Jr., Corvallis, Or.) won
the tiebreaker in the poe vault with a best clearance of 11-3¾.
The other men's win came from Chris Randolph
(Jr., Lone Tree, Co.), who hit a season-best 50.47 in handily
taking the 400.
The Falcons seek their first women's outdoor
conference title in three years when they go to the GNAC
Championships next Saturday in Ellensburg.
