SPU Women's Pair Wins But Four's String Snapped at NCRC Championships
April 23, 2005

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Apr. 23) Seattle Pacific University's varsity pair of Carly Bollen and Andi Martineau won the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference title but the Falcons' string of six straight women's four championships was snapped Saturday on Lake Stevens.

SPU brought home a total of two silver medals to go with their gold at the NCRC Championships, with the women's varsity four finishing second to Puget Sound and the men runner-up to the Loggers in the men's pair.

In their first race together this season, Bollen (Jr., Missoula, Mt.) and Martineau (Sr., Superior, Mt.), who comprise the stern pair of the four, stroked to a decisive, 46-second win over Willamette in 8 minutes, 25 seconds.

Puget Sound finished 6 seconds in front of SPU in the women's four final. The Falcons, who already have received a berth in the ECAC National Invitational Championships, had beaten the Loggers by 9 seconds a month ago. Seattle Pacific has won the past two national titles.

Jeremy Bryant (So., Gig Harbor, Wa./Gig Harbor) and Jason Mobley (Sr., Burien, Wa./Highline) were second to UPS in the men's pair by 10 seconds.

Next weekend the Falcons go to the WIRA Championships in Rancho Cordova, Ca.
