Marsh, Harris Win Events at Spike Arlt Invitational Track and Field Meet

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Apr. 16) ­ Jennifer Marsh of Seattle Pacific University took first place in the 800 meters and Amy Harris won the pole vault at the Spike Arlt Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium.

Amy Harris (So., Corvallis, Or.) became the Falcons' first 12-foot vaulter of the season, raising her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark an inch to 12-0¾.

Ally Studer (Sr., Redmond, Wa./Redmond) tied for second at 10-11¾. Allie Hedges (Jr., Richland, Wa.) was fifth with the same clearance.

Marsh (So., Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) picked up her first win of the year, beating teammate Josie Lavin (Jr., Bremerton, Wa.) to the line by two seconds in 2:19.91. Marsh was also fifth in the 400 (1:00.70). Lavin was clocked in 2:21.91.

Another silver finish was Kinyatta Leonhardt (So., Petaluma, Ca.) in the 100 dash (12.60). Amy Taylor (Sr., Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) threw for third in the javelin (127-2).

With less than a dozen women participating, SPU still finished fourth in the women's final standings with 80.33 points. Host Central Washington won with 198.

In the men's competition, the Wildcats scored 180.5 with the Falcons' two competitors totaling seven points. Eddie Strickler (So., Richland, Wa.) was fifth in the 400 (50.99) and seventh in the 800 (2:02.61).

SPU will send a select group of athletes to the Oregon Invitational next Saturday in Eugene.
