April 15, 2005

WALNUT, Calif. (Apr. 16) Paul Mach of Seattle Pacific won his section of the men's 800-meter run in a personal record time Friday night at the prestigious Mount SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King's) earned a place on the NCAA Division II track and field provisional qualifier list by edging Arizona's Kenneth Frank by 0.13 seconds in 1:52.83. Mach becomes Seattle Pacific's second male qualifier, joining Chris Randolph who did so earlier in the decathlon.

In the women's javelin, the Falcons' Lauren VerMulm (Fr., Mount Vernon, Wa.) took fourth with a throw of 146 feet, 4 inches. Washington State's Rachel Bertholf won with a mark of 164-4.

Karen Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) improved her conference 10,000-meter record and automatic qualifying time by more than 31 seconds but was 14th overall and ninth among collegians. Her time of 34:08.64 ranks No. 2 all-time at SPU but Sylvia Mosqueda won in 32:33.22, and Stephanie Bylander of Adams State (Co.) took over the Div. II lead with a 12th-place clocking of 34:00.70.
