Ayers-Stamper won the high jump and led a Seattle Pacific
University sweep of the top three spots in the hurdles to pace the
Falcon women at the Pelleur Invitational track and field meet
Friday evening at Woodward Field.
Ayers-Stamper (Jr., LaCrosse, Wa.) and distance
runners Karen Dickson (So., El Dorado Hills, Ca.) and Brandi McCoy
(So., Richland, Wa.) picked up the Falcons only wins in the
meet. Dickson took first in the 1500 in 4:40.97 and McCoy won the
3000 Steeplechase in 11:57.45.
In tuning up for her first heptathlon of 2005,
Ayers-Stamper stepped the 100 hurdles in 14.09 and turned around
to win the high-jump with a leap of 5-8. The sophomore also
managed to reel in fifth place in the 200 meters, breaking the
tape in 26.71.
Linda Blake (So., Everett, Wa.) and Kelsey
Cooley (So., Missoula, Mt.) completed the SPU sweep in the
hurdles, running 15.24 and 15.25, respectively.
In the pole vault competition, Amy Harris (Jr.,
Philomath, Or.) and Allie Hedges (So., Richland, Wa.) launched
second (11-7) and third (10-8) over the bar. Lauren VerMulm (Fr.,
Mount Vernon, Wa.) tossed the javelin 139-00, to finish in fourth.
Seattle Pacific held off a late charge by
Eastern Washington (49.08) in the womens 400 x 100 meter
relay in running a season best 49.07.
On the men's side, sprinter Ryan Jewell (Fr.,
Olympia, Wa.) was clocked in 11.21 and finished third among 100
meter competitors. The freshman from Olympia ran fourth in the
200, at 22.49, as did teammate Brian Cronrath (Fr., Battle Ground,
Wa.) in the 1500 (4:00.48).
The Falcon men finished third in the 4 x 400
meter relay, clocking in at a season-best 3:24.45.
Select athletes are slated to head to
California for the California Invitational Multi-Event and the
Mount SAC Relays this week. Others will travel to Ellensburg for
the Spike Arlt Invitational, Apr. 16.
