SEATTLE (Apr. 1) After rejecting 17
attempts during the Elite Eight, Seattle Pacific University center
Brittney Kroon finished second among NCAA Division II shot
blockers for the season.
Kroon (Jr., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.), who led the
nation as a sophomore, was runner-up to Kennesaw State's Lauren
Harris, who averaged 5.4 blocks. Kroon was next at 4.0 and her
total of 131 was just four shy of her SPU and GNAC record of 135,
set in 2004.
The Falcons were listed among the Div. II team
leaders in field-goal percentage defense (6th/.342), scoring
margin (7th/19.3), free throw percentage (7th/.776), rebound
margin (8th/8.6) and scoring (15th/78.0).
For the Seattle Pacific men, Dustin Bremerman
(So., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) was No. 4 in free throw
shooting (..879) and Jason Chivers (Sr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.)
was 14th in rebounding (10.2). A year ago, Ralph Steele led the
NCAA in foul shooting.
The team, which also led the nation in free
throw accuracy in 2004, was 13th this season (.762). It was sixth
in field-goal percentage (.501).
In the Great Northwest Athletic Conference,
Kroon led the way in blocks and field-goal accuracy (.569). Carli
Smith (Jr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) was the
rebounding leader (10.1) and also became the first Falcon since
1992 to average a double-double (10.8 points). Amy Taylor (Sr.,
5-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) was the assist-to-turnovers ration
leader (1.84).
Taylor (.853) and Smith (.829) now rank 1-2 in
SPU career free throw percentage while Kroon continues to add to
her career block total (299).
